Bibles

It is an absolute must for Catholics to read, study and pray the Bible. St. Jerome said “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”

The Bible is the Word of God. God speaks to us through the Sacred Scriptures – His love letter to us. The Bible reveals to us God’s will, mercy and plan for us and our salvation through the Old Testament and the New Testament which was revealed to us by “Word made flesh” – Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Bible comprises of seven books of the Old Testament which are not found in Protestant Bibles. Those books are Judith, Wisdom, Tobit, Sirach Baruch, 1 & 2 Macabees, portions of the book of Esther, and portions of the book of Daniel. These books are known as “Apocrypha” by Protestants or “Deuterocanonical” by Catholics.

The Catholic Bible is the original Bible that was approved by the early Church councils of Hippo (393) and of Carthage (397) which both declared that the books contained in the Catholic Bible were the inspired Word of God and belonged in the cannon of Sacred Scripture – the Bible.
